New video providers

Over the last few weeks we’ve completed a migration of video providers, which should result in a consistently better viewing experience for our users. We’ve been using the Highwinds CDN to deliver our live and on-demand video content, but we found they really didn’t have good network coverage outside of North America and Europe, and even in NA their delivery wasn’t as good as we wanted.

We’re now using a combination of Edgecast and Akamai, for on demand and live delivery respectively. Edgecast are a great CDN with fantastic worldwide presence, so they were a logical choice for taking on our on-demand video. Their storage model is quite cost effective, which is very important for us as we’re storing over 2TB of archives. Akamai have the most robust network delivery in the market, but their storage model is a bit outmoded and very costly. That said, thanks to some help from our friends at IHOP we’ve been able to tap into Akamai for their live delivery, which is top notch. The end result is that your viewing experience should be much better than recently, and should remain excellent whether watching live or on-demand, and regardless of where you are in the world (provided you have sufficient bandwidth, of course).

Big thanks to Edgecast and IHOP for helping us with these contracts, and special mention to Twistage who handled the entire migration for us of all our video assets. We didn’t have to touch a thing!

In the new year we’re planning to do some free video promotions to open up a lot more content to people, so stay tuned!

FREE Watching Extended

It’s been almost a month since we launched CatchTheFire.TV and the response has been incredible! Today we are very happy to announce that we’ve decided to continue the free access period for another whole month. Since we launched on June 11th, CatchTheFire.TV has had over 6300 unique visitors to make a total of almost 23000 website visits in less than 30 days! It used to take us almost 3 months to see that many visitors, so we are thrilled that people are taking advantage of the new video service. Today we want to encourage you to continue using the service as much as you like, completely free for another month.

From August 16th, you can still watch all of our live events for free. A subscription for only $10/month will get you access to all of our video archives, since the year 2000. If you were a paying member of ReviveTV until our free month (and now 2 months!) launch promotion, your billing date will be pushed back as appropriate so you get the value of the free promotion as well.

Here are some comments from users of CatchTheFire.TV:

Very excited to be able to see all the videos! Love the intro to each video. Also like having the videos categorized by person and topics!!
